‘Murphy Brown’ Revival Adds 3 Original Castmembers

The trio join Candice Bergen, previously set for the 13-episode return on CBS.

CBS is adding three more original castmembers to its upcoming revival of Murphy Brown.

The network on Monday confirmed that Faith Ford (who played Corky Sherwood), Joe Regalbuto (Frank Fontana) and Grant Shaud (Miles Silverberg) will all join series star Candice Bergen for the 13-episode revival of Diane English’s classic sitcom.

These additions round out much of the original regular cast, with Charles Kimbrough (now 81) the lone member of the core fivesome yet to sign on. New Murphy Brown episodes will air during the 2018-19 season, with the Warner Bros. Television production set to start filming in the summer.

Murphy Brown is just the latest in a growing number of classic sitcoms to reassemble its creative team for new episodes. It follows NBC’s successful return of Will & Grace and ABC’s forthcoming reboot of Roseanne. Like those two series, Murphy Brown spent much of its run earning headlines for its treatment of current events. The newsroom-set comedy saw Bergen, as the titular Brown, sparring with real-life politicians such as former Vice President Dan Quayle.

It’s safe to assume that the current administration will find itself the butt of many new Murphy Brown jokes.
