The Winter Soldier Trailer Gets Mission: Impossible 6 Re-Edit

A fan mined elements from the Mission: Impossible – Fallout trailer and used it for a fresh cut of Captain America: The Winter Soldier preview. With 18 films in the MCU, Cap 2 is regarded to be one of the best in the franchise due to its perfect narrative balance of being a great standalone movie but also servicing the bigger narrative that it belongs to. It pushed Rogers’ character to evolve from a man-out-of-time to someone who finally comes to term that this is now the world he lives in. Not only is the movie a pivotal moment for fans to be sold on Evans’ as the super soldier but it also paved the way for brothers Joe and Anthony Russo to become Marvel’s top-tiered directors.

Paramount has started marketing the sixth installment of the Mission: Impossible franchise late last month with the confirmation of its title coupled with our first look image and then the release of its first trailer during Super Bowl LII. Helmed by returning director, Christopher McQuarrie, Tom Cruise and his team seem to have upped the ante when it comes to the ridiculously dangerous stunts that the actor loves to do himself. Fortunately, despite the injury he suffered while filming, it looks like it’ll be all worth it considering the positive feedback that the upcoming blockbuster is getting from fans.

YouTube content creator, Mr Krepshus, who specializes in mish-mashing trailers including one for Justice League and Avengers: Infinity War, is back with a brand new creation. This time, he moves outside the superhero genre and edited a trailer for The Winter Soldier inspired by the recently released Fallout preview and even using Imagine Dragons’ “Friction” as its background music. Granted, the end result contains a few spoiler elements for the Marvel film, it is a pretty solid reimagining. Check it out above.

Tom Cruise in Mission Impossible Fallout Captain America: The Winter Soldier Trailer Recut in Mission: Impossible 6 Style

For the most part, Cap 2 has been dubbed as more of a political thriller than a superhero flick. Among Marvel’s extensive film line-up, The Winter Soldier is the most worldly as it dealt with espionage and conspiracies that other action spy thrillers, including the Mission: Impossible franchise, normally tackles, so this comparison makes a lot of sense. While Ethan Hunt isn’t necessarily a superhero, his physical abilities are more than your average human being. In a way, this makes him similar to Steve Rogers as both men rely on their sheer physical strength coupled with military training to go on these dangerous missions, making this trailer re-cut work better. The action set pieces and lack of outrageous weaponry/suit (like Iron Man or Ant-Man) on both films are used to highlight Hunt’s and Rogers’ ability when it comes to hand-to-hand combat, although Cruise’s stunts are probably bolder than the one Evans’ does.

Despite being mainly separate from the superhero fame, fans of the genre are still keeping their eyes on Mission: Impossible – Fallout given that it played a part in Justice League‘s CGI kerfuffle with Henry Cavill. The actor was called back for some reshoots for the DC movie while in the midst of filming the Paramount project where he’s sporting a mustache. This obviously posed a problem considering that Superman doesn’t have facial hair. With Paramount refusing to let him shave, Warner Bros. ended up digitally removing his mustache during post resulting in the 34-year-old’s upper lip looking all sorts of odd in the movie.
