“I think being able to shine a light on Tupac and Christopher Wallace’s friendship is the highlight and the biggest award of this story,” Rose told THR.
Two of the main stars of USA Network’s scripted true-crime series, Unsolved: The Murders of Tupac & Biggie, Wavvy Jonez and Marcc Rose, stopped by The Hollywood Reporter In Studio to discuss portraying the iconic hip-hop artists, and what they learned about the investigation that shaped pop culture a decade ago.
When it comes to Tupac and The Notorious B.I.G., many know of the infamous feud that took over hip-hop in the ’90s. But according to Rose, who plays Tupac, learning about the friendship between the two artists may surprise some viewers.
“I think being able to shine a light on Tupac and Christopher Wallace’s friendship was the highlight and the biggest award of this story,” he told THR. “I think a lot of times when, you know, people discuss Tupac or Christopher Wallace, the first thing that comes to a lot of people’s minds is the east coast/west coast beef, and it sucks because it was such a small point in their lives that got blown out of proportion.”
Jonez and Rose also spoke about the in-depth investigation of these two murders and just how far detectives went to find the answers.
“We got a chance to not only show the humanity between these two, but we get to show people there was an actual thorough investigation that was going on trying to find the answers to these two crimes,” Rose said. “As a fan, I never knew that.”
Jonez added, “I really feel like we go the chance to go there and to learn a lot, not only about the friendship, but like what Marcc said, the investigation and just how deep this was, and who it affected. It affected a lot of people’s families and not only from the two artists, but it affected the detective’s lives too, like their personal lives.”
