Watch the trailer for Jay Z’s Trayvon Martin documentary

Paramount have released a trailer for Rest in Power: The Trayvon Martin Story, the Jay-Z-produced docuseries on the controversial case.

The case, which saw 17-year-old Martin shot dead by George Zimmerman, was integral in launching the Black Lives Matter movement. Zimmerman was acquitted of second-degree murder and manslaughter, claiming he acted in self defence despite Martin not possessing any weapons.

Jay Z serves as executive producer on the new series, with the new trailer focussing on a number of headlines surrounding the case, including: “He was just a kid,” “I don’t want this to be swept under the rug” and “He was standing his ground.”

Check out the trailer below – the series premieres in July.

Jay Z made a surprise appearance at a peace walk in memory of Trayvon Martin on 9 February.

The rapper stood alongside the parents of Martin, who was fatally shot at the age of 17 in 2012, at the sixth annual Peace Walk and Talk held by the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

Jay Z, who was recently threatened by Trayvon Martin’s shooter, praised the teenager’s parents, Sybrina Fulton and Tracy Martin. He said:

“We want to make sure that we stand and support and never forget that Trayvon serves as a beacon of light to the people out here. So you guys will never have to go through the pain and hurt that these guys went through.
