Zayn Malik shares clip of his cover for Bollywood soundtrack

Zayn Malik has shared a clip of his stripped back cover for a forthcoming Bollywood film.

The former One Direction singer, who released debut album Mind of Mine in 2016, has provided his own take on Teri Deewani by hugely popular Bollywood singer Kalisah Kher.

In his performance of the track, Zayn is seen pairing his unique vocals with the stripped down sound of an acoustic guitar.

But it’s done little to impress some Bollywood critics, with one Pakistani journalist describing it as a “disaster”.

“His cover of Kher’s Teri Deewani was a disaster”, the review states.

“Hoping to venture into Bollywood and qawalis, Malik could use a little more practice. Also, Kailash Kher – we apologise on behalf of Malik.”

Zayn also recently revealed that he’s working with Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire producer A.R. Rahman.

“It’s one of the first songs I’ve sung in full Hindi, so it’s going to be cool to see what the response to that is”, he admitted.

‘There’s definitely a lot of Urdu; some nice qawwali sounds. There might even be some bhangra vibes. I have worked with AR Rahman on one song.”

Last week, Malik also mysteriously released new snippets of music on his Instagram, prompting reports that he could be gearing up for the release of his second album.

On Tuesday (February 20), the star posted four separate recordings to his 27 million followers, featuring him singing soulfully over a slow, eerie piano chord progression.

The sound is dark, sparse and blues-y. Most of Malik’s lyrics are unintelligible, but on the second recording he can be heard singing: “She wants somebody to love/ In the right way”.
