BBC Picks Up Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s ‘Killing Eve’

Sandra Oh stars in the show from the ‘Fleabag’ creator.

Phoebe Waller-Bridge is heading back to the BBC.

Killing Eve, a new high-stakes thriller from the Fleabag creator and multi-award-winning writer, has been acquired by the U.K. broadcaster.

The eight-part series, a Sid Gentle production for BBC America that was acquired from Endeavor Content, will premiere on BBC One and BBC Three later this year.

Killing Eve sees Sandra Oh (Grey’s Anatomy) as Eve, a bored MI5 security officer whose desk job does not fulfill her fantasies of being a spy. Jodie Comer (Doctor Foster) is Villanelle, a fearsome assassin clinging to the luxuries her violent job affords her. When Eve is tasked with tracking down Villanelle before she can strike again, the two women are thrown into a cat-and-mouse game that turns the traditional spy thriller on its head.

Heading up an ensemble cast, the two actresses are joined by Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter) as Carolyn Martens, David Haig (Four Weddings and a Funeral) as Eve’s colleague Bill and Kim Bodnia (The Bridge) as Konstantin. Further casting includes Darren Boyd (Fortitude) as Frank Haleton, Sean Delaney (Midsomer Murders) as Kenny Stowton, Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Downward Dog) as Elena Felton and Owen McDonnell (Paula) as Niko.

Based on the Villanelle novellas by Luke Jennings, Killing Eve was developed by Waller-Bridge, who serves as writer and executive producer. Sally Woodward Gentle and Lee Morris also executive produce, with Colin Wratten producing.

Waller-Bridge – who also has the second season of Fleabag in the pipeline, alongside the rom-com Run Wth eOne – is repped by Hatton McEwan Penford and Independent in the U.K.
