Blossoms share new single ‘I Can’t Stand It’ and announce new album ‘Cool Like You’

The Stockport band have returned with the first track from their hotly anticipated second album

Blossoms have shared ‘I Can’t Stand It’, the first track from their upcoming second album, ‘Cool Like You’.

The Stockport band released their self-titled debut album in August 2016. Featuring the singles ‘Charlemagne’, ‘Blown Rose’, and ‘At Most A Kiss’, it scored the group a first Number One on the Official UK Albums Chart.

The five-piece joined Annie Mac in the BBC Radio 1 studio earlier tonight (March 1) to premiere ‘I Can’t Stand It’ – listen to it below. They also confirmed ‘Cool Like You’ would be released on April 27.

Frontman Tom Ogden explained that some of the songs on the new record were written two years ago, with one – ‘There’s A Reason Why’ – being a “follow on” from the last album’s ‘Getaway’.

Discussing the pressure to replicate the success of their debut, he said: “There were points where I felt pressure, but in a productive way. There was a time when we were in Barcelona, and there was a a piano in the dressing room. I felt like it was staring me out like, ‘Come on, you need to write a tune.’”

He added that the band don’t feel like they’ve “made it”, despite what they achieved first time round. “Loads of people could have one good album,” he said. “Longevity’s where it lies. We’re all best mates and want to keep doing what we’re doing. We had a great time touring the world and doing what everyone in our positions would want to do, but there was always in the back of your mind keep writing songs, get in the studio, and be on the front foot with it.”

The tracklist for ‘Cool Like You’ is as follows:

‘There’s A Reason Why’
‘I Can’t Stand It’
‘Cool Like You’
‘Unfaithful’
‘Stranger Still’
‘How Long Will This Last’
‘Between The Eyes’
‘I Just Imagined You’
‘Giving Up The Ghost’
‘Lying Again’
‘Love Talk’

Blossoms recently released a short documentary, titled Where Are Blossoms? In the short film, it’s claimed that each member has gone off to pursue their own individual passions after the success of their 2016 debut, and there’s some unexpected new ventures in store.

The band also recently set up a helpline for fans “feeling confused” amid apparent tension within the group. There has been some speculation that the band could split following a heated Twitter exchange between frontman Tom Ogden and drummer Joe Donovan last month.
