Dax Shepard to Star Opposite Lake Bell in Fox Comedy

The ‘Parenthood’ alum will also exec produce ‘Bless This Mess,’ from ‘New Girl’ creator Liz Meriwether.

Dax Shepard is returning to primetime.

The Parenthood alum, who fielded multiple offers this season, is set to star in and exec produce Fox’s off-cycle pilot Bless This Mess.

The single-camera comedy revolves around a newlywed couple (Shepard, Lake Bell) that gives up their drab and unfulfilling lives in New York and moves to Nebraska to live a simpler life. It doesn’t work out like they planned.

New Girl creator Liz Meriwether and Bell penned the script and will exec produce alongside Shepard and Katherine Pope. The comedy will shoot off-cycle in June.

Shepard’s Mike is described as the happiest, most positive hipster in New York. He’s a freelance journalist who gives up his job and city life to move to the Cornhusker State after inheriting his family’s farm.

Bless This Mess marks Shepard’s return to series regular work after his six-season run as Crosby Braverman on NBC’s beloved Parenthood. Most recently, he has guest-starred on NBC’s The Good Place and  Fox’s Ghosted. On the film side, he wrote, directed and starred in last year’s CHiPs reboot, Hit and Run and Brother’s Justice. His podcast, “Armchair Expert,” launched two weeks ago. He’s repped by WME and Lichter Grossman.
