Deadpool Finds The Easter Egg In New Poster

Another new Deadpool 2 poster has been released just in time for the holiday weekend. Given the runaway success of the first film, there was never any doubt that the sequel to Deadpool would do well at the box office. But with the movie jumping from the relatively quiet February release window of the original to the crowded beginning of blockbuster season, Deadpool 2 is tracking below the first film. Fans will head out in droves to see the film regardless, but with so much competition surrounding it things might not go as well this year for the Merc with the Mouth.

To continue drumming up excitement for the movie, star Ryan Reynolds and Fox have been providing fans with plenty of new promotional material even after the recent Deadpool 2 trailer offered even more footage from the film. We’ve already seen quite a lot from the movie, teasing the jokes and action in store for audiences in May. But like the first film, there’s also been lots of fun promos and posters highlighting Wade Wilson’s signature humor.

The latest poster for Deadpool 2 features Wade celebrating Easter weekend with his very own golden egg. Not only does it call out the holiday and nod to the familiar fairy tale, but it’s also likely a nod to the prevalence of Easter eggs (hidden allusions for die-hard fans) that fill up comic book movies. It could even be a dig at Ready Player One, which hits theaters this week and is packed full of references to other films. Check it out:

This isn’t the first new poster we’ve seen recently. Earlier this week we got a new Deadpool 2 international poster bringing together Wade, Domino, and Cable. We haven’t gotten to know much about the two new mutants in the footage so far, but they’ll hardly be alone as Deadpool assembles his own team and adds a number of comic book characters to the X-Men universe.

The new poster is also a continuation of Deadpool’s love of the holidays. Back at the beginning of the film’s marketing cycle last year, we got a Deadpool 2 Thanksgiving poster that brought together the various characters of the sequel in hilarious fashion. Though multiple posters aren’t uncommon for big films, the Deadpool franchise certainly takes things to new levels in its attempts to generate excitement amongst fans (and plenty of headlines).

Hopefully, all of the marketing will pay off in Deadpool 2‘s favor even as it launches between Avengers: Infinity War and Solo: A Star Wars Story. After all, it’s now Fox’s one attempt at superhero success this year after X-Men: Dark Phoenix got pushed back (causing The New Mutants to move its release date once again). The future of the X-Men franchise is up in the air given what’s happened behind the scenes and with 20th Century Fox’s impending sale to Disney, but at least fans will soon get to enjoy Deadpool 2.
