The actor, recently of ’13 Reasons Why,’ will play the lead in the Hitchcockian thriller.
NBC has found its star for Suspicion. The Hitchcockian thriller, about a man going to great lengths to protect his family, has set Derek Luke for the lead role of Danny Goodman.
Luke, perhaps best known for his starring turn in Denzel Washington’s Antwone Fisher, was most recently seen on Netflix breakout 13 Reasons Why as one of the few prominently featured adult actors. He’s also had recurring roles on Empire, Rogue and The Americans.
Described as “a reluctant hero who doesn’t know it yet,” Luke’s character is a widower focused on providing a normal life for his daughter and building a new life with his fiancee. Things take a turn when he takes a loan from a wealthy neighbor and is then coerced into becoming an FBI informant. (It’s based on a book by Joseph Finder.)
Actress Paula Newsome was previously cast as a special agent charged with working with Danny.
Produced by Universal Television and Keshet, the Boston-shot pilot is written and being executive produced by Jessica Goldberg. Rachel Kaplan, Peter Traugott, Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman and Joseph Finder round out the EPs.
Luke is repped by ICM Partners, Greenlight Management and Wendy Kirk at Ziffren Brittenham.
