The cast of Goosebumps 2 keeps expanding, bringing Ken Jeong, Chris Parnell, and Wendi McLendon-Covey on board. Back in 2015, Sony brought some of R.L Stine’s stories to the big screen with Goosebumps, starring Jack Black as a fictionalized version of Stine. The film managed to please fans of the book series with its combination of kid-friendly horror stories and characters from Stine’s books, such as Slappy the Dummy.
A sequel has been in the works for a few years, and after a change in directors and rumours of Black not reprising his role as Stine due to scheduling conflicts (though he is expected to voice Slappy again), the film could be ready to move on from pre-production limbo soon. The studio has already cast new, young talent for the sequel, including Jumanji’s Madison Iseman and IT’s Jeremy Ray Taylor, and now three names have been added to the adult cast.

According to Variety, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Ken Jeong, and Chris Parnell have joined the cast of Goosebumps 2 – tentatively known as Goosebumps: Slappy’s Revenge. Plot details remain unknown, but it has been previously reported that it will revolve around Slappy, the evil ventriloquist dummy being brought back to life and using his powers to unleash the apocalypse on Halloween night. This story would bring a new group of protagonists to face Slappy and all the horrors he might bring.
McLendon-Covey is best known for her role as Rita in Bridesmaids and currently stars as Beverly Goldberg in ABC’s comedy series The Goldbergs. Jeong appeared in The Hangover trilogy as gangster Leslie Chow and is well known for his role as Ben Chang in Community. Among his recent works are the action comedy film Killing Hasselhoff and the upcoming Crazy Rich Asians, where he plays Goh Wye Mun. As for Parnell, he currently stars in ABC’s sitcom Grown-ish, and voices Jerry Smith – Morty’s dad – in Adult Swim’s Rick and Morty.
Details about their characters are unknown, so fans of the series will have to wait a bit longer to learn what their connection with the younger cast will be and if they are somehow connected to Black’s version of Stine or not. Given that the younger cast has more experience in the horror genre and the adult cast so far are veterans in the comedy field, the studio is bringing a good balance of comedy and horror to this sequel.
