‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 Trailer

The sophomore season of Hulu’s acclaimed drama picks up after a game-changing cliffhanger.

“Seriously, what the actual fuck?”

That is how Offred (Elisabeth Moss) closes out the trailer to the highly anticipated second season of Hulu’s The Handmaid’s Tale.

Offred, who will emerge as an even more rebellious spirit in season two, utters that provocative line after repeating with disdain the rules she has long been forced to obey: “Wear the red dress. Wear the wings. Shut your mouth. Be a good girl. Roll over and spread your legs. Yes ma’am. May the Lord open.”

The follow-up season to the series’ Emmy-winning debut will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the misogynistic and dystopian horrors of Gilead. Offred and all the characters will fight against — or succumb to — the dark truth that “Gilead is within you,” as Aunt Lydia says. The second season, which has now surpassed the content in the Margaret Atwood novel on which the show is based, is poised to be even more timely and culturally relevant, returning in the #MeToo era.

In addition to the glimpses of what’s ahead provided in the trailer, viewers can expect immediate ramifications of the season one finale’s big revelation that Offred will be pregnant while now on the run. The series has added several new characters, including Emmy-winning actress Cherry Jones, who will guest-star as Offred’s mother; Oscar-winning actress Marisa Tomei, the wife of a commander; and Clea DuVall, the wife to Alexis Bledel’s character.

Joseph Fiennes, Yvonne Strahovski, Samira Wiley, Alexis Bledel, Ann Dowd, Max Minghella, Madeline Brewer, O-T Fagbenle and Amanda Brugel round out the cast.

The MGM Television series is created, exec produced and written by Bruce Miller, and is exec produced by Warren Littlefield, Daniel Wilson, Fran Sears, Ilene Chaiken and Moss.

The first two episodes of The Handmaid’s Tale‘s new season bow April 25 on Hulu. Watch the trailer below.
