Lana Del Rey shares ‘dream’ cover of ‘You Must Love Me’ from Evita

Lana Del Rey has shared a cover of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s ‘You Must Love Me’ from the classic movie and musical Evita. Check it out below.

The track is taken from Unmasked: The Platinum Collection – a compilation to celebrate’s Webber’s upcoming 70th birthday.

“Andrew Lloyd Webber has been one of my primary inspirations in music, so to do a cover of one of his songs is a dream,” said Del Rey. “I especially love this particular song, You Must Love Me, because of how unique the melody is. I’ve been incredibly inspired by all of Andrew’s work from Phantom of the Opera to Evita.”

Speaking of her cover, Webber said: “Lana Del Rey sings beautifully, and with a haunting echo, over the simple piano accompaniment.

“Singer and song express neediness, devotion, bravery and command, all at once, a clever, seemingly effortless trick of Rice’s syntax.”

Unmasked: The Platinum Collection is due for release on March 16, and also features Webber tracks sung by the likes of Sir Tom Jones, Boyzone, Nicole Scherzinger and many more.

As well as appearing at a karaoke bar to sing her own track, Del Rey also recently made headlines with rumours that she is currently working with producer Jack Antonoff – as well as confirming that she is developing a musical for Broadway.

Answering a fan question in a new interview with L’Officiel about whether she would ever write or direct her own “feature-length or short film” she said: “I thought about writing a biopic about someone that wasn’t real. Actually, I was asked to write a musical, which I’ve started. It was for Broadway.”

Discussing how long it’ll take for the project to be completed, she said: “I may finish in two or three years. Me and [collaborator] Rick [Nowels] have written something, so we’ll see.”
