He’ll co-star alongside Derek Luke in the drama pilot from Jessica Goldberg.
A month after saying farewell to Law & Order: SVU, Raul Esparza is returning to NBC.
The actor and four-time Tony nominee has been tapped to co-star in the network’s drama pilot Suspicion.
From writer Jessica Goldberg (The Path) and based on the book by Joseph Finder, the drama is described as a Hitchcockian thriller about how far one man will go to save the people he loves. After Danny Goldman (Derek Luke, 13 Reasons Why) accepts a handshake loan from his new friend and millionaire neighbor, he gets a visit from the FBI and learns that the decision is one he will regret for the rest of his life. Coerced to work as an informant for the FBI to earn back his freedom, Danny is forced to infiltrate a world of violence and corruption while trying to protect his family.
Esparza will take on the role of Tom Canter, the guy everyone looks up to. Coming from a humble beginning, he instantly bonds with Danny as the two realize their similar histories.
The casting comes a month after Esparza signed off NBC’s long-running Law & Order: SVU, where he had played the procedural’s led prosecutor for six seasons. Esparza will reunite with Goldberg after the actor had an arc this season on Hulu’s The Path. His credits include NBC’s Hannibal and animated feature Ferdinand. He’s repped by ICM Partners and Elin Flack Management.
Goldberg penned the pilot for Universal Television and Keshet and will exec produce alongside Rachel Kaplan, Peter Traugott, Avi Nir, Alon Shtruzman and Joseph Finder.
