A new venue set to open in Hull has asked Liam Gallagher to perform at its opening event after his brother Noel called the Yorkshire city a “fucking shithole”.
Noel recently uttered the derogatory remarks onstage during a gig in the US, with former Oasis frontman Liam later telling a fan on Twitter that he himself “loves” Hull.
In response, Hull Venue, a “state-of-the-art, music and events complex with a capacity of up to 3,500 people”, has now asked Liam if he fancies “showing Noel just how great a Hull audience is” by performing at their venue this summer.
Liam has not yet responded publicly to the offer.
Noel was responding to a group of Hull men on a stag do, who were chanting loudly for their local football team, when he made his “shithole” comment.
“Are you English?” Noel asked. “For fuck sake. Where are you from? Don’t fucking tell me, Newcastle? Liverpool? Leeds? Fuckin’ Yorkshire?”
After the group began chanting for Hull City FC, he continued: “Hull? From Hull? How the fuck can you afford to be in America from Hull? Did you fucking rob your gran’s house or something?”
“Don’t want to be miserable right, [but] it’s a fucking shithole. The best thing about it is a bridge. That’s all they have got is a fucking bridge. It’s shit. No offence.”

Liam and Noel are set to play the same festival – on separate days and at different venues – with Liam being announced for the BBC’s new Biggest Weekend festival.
Noel will headline the festival’s Scottish leg in Perth on May 26, while Liam will play Coventry’s War Memorial Park alongside Paloma Faith, UB40 and Billy Ocean on May 27.
