The Weeknd has shared a surprise new album called ‘My Dear Melancholy’.
The six-track release was only announced on Thursday and follows on from Abel Tesfaye’s 2016 record ‘Starboy’. It’s out now via XO/Republic Records.
The album features two collaborations with French DJ and Kanye West collaborator Gesaffelstein, as well as production credits for Daft Punk’s Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, Skrillex, Frank Dukes, Mike WiLL Made-It, Daheala, Cirkut and Marz.
A source recently told Billboard that the Weeknd’s next album would see “Abel taking it back to his roots” and, as expected, ‘My Dear Melancholy’ does hark back to the downtempo vibe of ‘Trilogy’.

Meanwhile, The Weeknd’s own Marvel comic book is set to be released this summer.
Tesfaye recently shared more details about the comic, with issue one of The Weeknd Presents: Starboy set to be released on June 13 – featuring Tesfaye as the hero of the piece.
In a three-star review, NME wrote of ‘Starboy’: “Well, there’s no mega-smash-in-waiting like ‘Can’t Feel My Face’, but Tesfaye’s still capable of brilliant bluntness about intoxication and sex.”
