Nickelodeon Orders Live-Action Buddy Comedy ‘Cousins for Life’ (Exclusive)

The series comes from ‘Austin & Ally’ creators Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert.

Nickelodeon has greenlit a new live-action series.

The young-skewing network has ordered 20 episodes of Cousins For Life, a buddy comedy from Austin & Ally creators Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert. The show will begin production in Los Angeles this summer, with the series set to air later this year.   

Cousins For Life centers on 12-year-old cousins Stuart (Dallas Young) and Ivy (Scarlet Spencer), best friends who come from very different backgrounds, and learn to navigate life under one roof with their families. After Stuart’s mom is deployed overseas, his fun-loving dad Clark (Ishmel Sahid) decides to move the family to Portland.

There, he lives with his uptight brother Lewis (Ron G.) and his family, which includes Stuart’s confident, socially active cousin Ivy and her younger, overly-curious brother Leaf (Micah Abbey). Now living in a brand new city, Stuart embarks on a variety of endeavors with Ivy that lead to hilarious adventures. Although the cousins do not always see eye-to-eye, Ivy and Stuart learn they are better together, and when they team up, they are unstoppable.

“We began our careers at Nickelodeon and we couldn’t be more excited to be back,” said creators and executive producers Kopelow and Seifert, whose other credits include All That and Kenan & Kel. “We have an amazing cast and we can’t wait for the audience to meet them.”

Nickelodeon has been one of Viacom’s most stable brands of late. While the network ratings were flat this past year, competition like Disney Channel saw a 24 percent drop in viewers in 2017. In an effort to lure more viewers, the children’s network recently announced at its upfronts that it would be reviving its popular ’90s kids show Blue’s Clues.
