‘Red Line’ marks the actor’s return to broadcast series-regular TV after ‘ER.’
Noah Wyle is plotting his return to broadcast television.
The ER alum has been tapped to topline CBS drama pilot Red Line, from executive producers Ava DuVernay and Greg Berlanti.
After a white cop in Chicago mistakenly shoots and kills a black doctor, the potential series follows three different families that all have connections to the case, with the story told from each perspective.
Wyle will star as Daniel Calder, a dedicated high school teacher who is mourning the loss of his innocent African-American husband, who was shot and killed by a white police officer. Daniel is now a single parent to his adopted daughter, Jira.
Caitlin Parrish (Supergirl) and Erica Weiss penned the script and co-exec produce the Warner Bros. Television drama. DuVernay, Berlanti and Sarah Schechter exec produce. Victoria Mahoney will direct the pilot. The cast includes Emayatzy Corinealdi, Michael Patrick Thornton, Aliyah Royale as Jira and Noel Fisher (Shameless) as the white cop.
Should Red Line move to series, it would become Wyle’s first broadcast series-regular role since he wrapped NBC’s ER nearly a decade ago. He recurs on TNT’s The Librarians, which is awaiting word on its future after wrapping its fourth season in February. The actor next appears in an episode of Matt Weiner’s Amazon anthology The Romanoffs. Red Line is Wyle’s second pilot in a row for CBS; last season, he was attached to star in Perfect Citizen for the network as he continues to plot his series-regular return after a starring role on TNT’s Falling Skies. He is repped by CAA, Brillstein Entertainment Partners and Jackoway Tyerman.
