‘SNL’: Alec Baldwin’s Donald Trump Rambles on Gun Control, Wakanda in Cold Open

“We have to take a hard look at mental health, which I have so much of,” Baldwin said. “I have one of the healthiest mentals.”

Alec Baldwin reprised his impression of President Donald Trump in Saturday’s Saturday Night Live cold open. In a spoof of Anderson Cooper 360º, with cast member Alex Moffat playing Cooper, Baldwin (as Trump) delivered prepared remarks on some of the recent events at the White House, focusing in particular on the recent conversations about gun violence in the wake of the Parkland, Fla. school shooting.

Joined by Cecily Strong playing Dianne Feinstein and Beck Bennett as Mike Pence, Baldwin’s Trump rambled about taking guns away and his talks with students about gun violence. “We have to take a hard look at mental health, which I have so much of,” Baldwin said. “I have one of the healthiest mentals.” He suggested that they take away all guns, “even from the whites.”

Baldwin’s Trump also talked about all of the countries that are ahead of the U.S., including China, Japan, and the fictional setting of Black Panther, Wakanda. “They’ve got flying cars in Wakanda.”

On the recent resignation of former White House Communications Director Hope Hicks, Baldwin’s Trump said “I hate seeing her go, but I love seeing her walk away.”

Trump and Baldwin recently exchanged insults on Twitter following an interview Baldwin gave to The Hollywood Reporter.

In response to Baldwin noting that playing the president is agony, Trump tweeted: “Alec Baldwin, whose dying mediocre career was saved by his terrible impersonation of me on SNL, now says playing me was agony. Alec, it was agony for those who were forced to watch.”

Baldwin fired back: “Agony though it may be, I’d like to hang in there for the impeachment hearings, the resignation speech, the farewell helicopter ride.”
