Listen to a quick album teaser
Dev Hynes has confirmed that the new Blood Orange album is finished and ready to be released.
The artist began teasing new material via Instagram back in April – saying that he had a mixtape, album, and 8 singles ready to drop.
Now he’s shared a brand new teaser, with the caption “album 4 is ready.” The music on the teaser is taken from the new LP and you can see it below.
In February, Hynes unveiled two tracks as Blood Orange to mark Black History Month – ‘Christopher & 6th’ and ‘June 12th’.
Neither track will feature on the new album. ‘Christopher & 6th’ is a mash of moody and soulful influences, whereas ‘June 12th’ plays off the darker more ambient tones seen in his previous works. The lyrics in both discuss issues related to identity.
Sharing the songs on Instagram, Hynes wrote: “TWO NEW SONGS. Not from the next album. Christopher & 6th / June 12th link in bio” followed by “U must luv yourself Happy Black History Month. (All year)”.
Blood Orange’s last album was 2016’s ‘Freetown Sound’, which NME described as: “a bold, challenging album about the social and generational forces that have shaped Dev Hynes’ sense of blackness.”
Last month, Hynes attended Kanye West’s creative director’s first fashion show for Louis Vuitton at Paris Fashion Week.
Virgil Abloh was also joined for the special occasion by a host of his music friends and colleagues including Kid Cudi, Playboi Carti and Steve Lacy.
