With more than 9,100 submissions for the 70th annual Emmy Awards, to say it’s a challenge to cut through is an understatement. But that was not the case for the following individuals, who were twice blessed to be recognized for their work in multiple categories.
The number of multiple nominees this year also serves as yet another reminder of the Peak TV landscape in which stars can juggle various projects thanks in part to the limited episodic count for cable and streaming programs. (That said, many broadcast and cable platforms are having to loosen their grip on stars taking on other projects for competitors as well as the number of episodes they’re juggling as the industry norm used to be a hard and fast three episodes.)
Here’s a look at acting nominees who scored Emmy nominations for multiple programs in the performing categories.
Last year’s lead actor in a drama series winner Sterling K. Brown was recognized in the category again for his work on NBC’s This Is Us and earned a nom as guest actor in a comedy series for his work on Fox’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
Donald Glover, who won lead actor in a comedy last year for Atlanta, is looking to repeat in the category this year and will also go head-to-head with Brown in guest actor in a comedy series, hosting NBC’s Saturday Night Live.
Speaking of Saturday Night Live, grad Bill Hader scored a nom for his return to the NBC late-night variety show and will compete in the lead actor in a comedy category for HBO freshman Barry.
Jeff Daniels will compete in two limited series categories for his work in two streaming series, earning a lead actor mention for Hulu’s The Looming Tower and supporting actor for Netflix’s Godless.
Alex Borstein broke through in the supporting actress in a comedy series category for her turn in Amazon Studios’ The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and was recognized for her continuing voiceover work in Fox’s veteran animated series Family Guy.
Maisel‘s Jane Lynch earned a guest actress in a comedy nom and also was recognized for her reality show hosting duties on NBC’s Hollywood Game Night.
