Listen to Robyn’s glittering new single ‘Missing U’ and announces Ibiza shows

The Swedish artist promised her imminent return earlier this week

Robyn has shared her first new music since 2016 with new single ‘Missing U’.

The Swedish artist teased her return earlier this week with a short film, called A Message To My Fans. In it, she revealed the first single from her long-awaited eighth album would be premiered today (August 1) on Annie Mac’s BBC Radio 1 show.

‘Missing U’ was recorded and written in Paris and Stockholm. Robyn wrote and produced the track with Metronomy’s Joseph Mount and her long-time collaborator Klas Åhlund. You can listen to it below.

In a press release, the musician said: “‘Missing U’ is a song about this trippy thing that happens when people disappear, it’s like they become even more clear and you see them everywhere.” She added that the song is “also a little bit of a message to my fans that I’ve missed them.”

Speaking to Mac, Robyn said she had wanted to write an album in 2014 “but I really didn’t know what to say.” “Finally, I got back to writing,” she said. “I did travelling, I went clubbing, I went to therapy. I just explored.”

She also confirmed her album was complete and would be released before the end of 2018. “I just finished it a couple of weeks ago,” she said. “I’m still mixing it. [It will be out] this year, for sure.”

The star will also be performing in Ibiza tomorrow (August 2) and this Sunday (August 5), with the latter show being a part of Radio 1’s Ibiza takeover.

Fans were given a hint of new music last year when a new track called ‘Honey’ appeared in an episode of Lena Dunham’s TV show, Girls. In May, Robyn played an early demo of the track during an event at New York’s Museum of Modern Art. Later that night (May 22), she debuted the full, finished version at Brooklyn Bowl, where she made a surprise appearance at a club night dedicated to her music.

In February, the star told fans they could expect her new record to be released “some time this year.” The album will be her first as Robyn since 2010’s ‘Body Talk’. In 2015, she released an EP with her project La Bagatelle Magique and another the following year with Mr. Tophat.
