New music from Richard D. James is on the way
A new Aphex Twin teaser on social media has revealed some details of a new EP.
The electronic pioneer’s logo recently mysteriously appeared at London’s Elephant & Castle tube station, as well as at other locations around the world, including Turin, Hollywood, and New York.
Now, his label Warp Records have posted a new teaser on their Twitter page. Most of the text in the image is obscured by Aphex’s logo, but the title ‘Collapse’ EP can be seen multiple times across the page.

Aphex Twin – whose real name is Richard D. James – last put out an EP with 2016’s ‘Cheetah‘. In a three-star review, NME said: “‘Cheetah’ isn’t bad, but it could be the work of a lesser producer. In this respect at least, Aphex Twin remains an enigma. After all, you don’t come out of retirement to be ordinary.”
His last album, ‘Syro‘, came out in 2014. It was well-received by critics and was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize, but lost out to Benjamin Clementine’s ‘At Least For Now’. The album was 13 years in the making following 2001’s ‘Drukqs‘.
Meanwhile, an extensive new BBC Radio Four documentary, ‘The Cult Of Aphex Twin’, aired in July. The programme aimed to shine a light on the long-standing mysteries and rumours surrounding the artist, including that he once lived in a bank vault in the middle of the Elephant & Castle roundabout.
