Can you imagine a world without Meredith Grey wandering the halls of Grey-Sloan Memorial? Because fans, we might have to get used to it.
Because the day Grey’s Anatomy fans have long been dreading might be closer than we think.
Ahead of the Season 15 premiere, Ellen Pompeo sat down with Entertainment Weekly and discussed the future of Grey’s Anatomy.

Grey’s breaks a TV milestone this week as it ties ER as the longest-running medical drama.
When talking about her historic salary increase and contract, Ellen hinted that Season 16 could be her last.

Her contract is only good through 2020 — which would be the end of Season 16.
Ellen told EW, “I’m feeling like we have told the majority of the stories that we can tell.”
She went on to explain that she’s proud of the work she’s been able to do on Grey’s, but she’s looking for a change.
Ellen said, “It’s about time that I mix it up and I’m really excited about my producing career, and I’m definitely looking for a change…My children are getting older so I want to be more available to them now.”
Of course, she had nothing but great things to say about Grey’s Anatomy — the show that has given her so much.

She went on to say, “I still am fighting every day to make everything surrounding this show, the quality of the show, the storytelling, I’m still fighting for everything I can, for the quality to be good, for the actors to be happy, whether that’s well received or not.”

Although this sounds like Ellen has already made up her mind, don’t start writing strongly worded letters to Team Grey’s just yet.
Ellen made it very clear that she hasn’t made anything official, saying, “I’m clearly not prepared right now to make any formal announcement about my future on the show. That’s something that Shonda Rhimes and I will do together.”

All I know is that if I have to watch Meredith Grey die in Season 16, Grey’s Anatomy should be supplying the boxes and boxes of tissues I’ll be needing.
TBH, Ellen possibly leaving is worse than any Grey’s death EVER.
