Watch ‘Michael Myers’ play a heavy metal version of the iconic Halloween theme tune

Of course Michael Myers would be a metalhead…

Guitarist Jason Richardson has donned the iconic Michael Myers mask from seminal horror film ‘Halloween’ to reveal his heavy metal reworking of the film’s theme tune.

Richardson has previously played with both deathcore band Chelsea Grin and metalcore group Born Of Osiris.

In the new video released yesterday (October 25), Richardson is dressed in the trademark boiler suit and mask worn in the Halloween horror film franchise.

Richardson pulls out an uncanny performance as Michael Myers, helped by the deep shadows and creepy lighting from a swinging lamp.

He also shows off his incredible technical prowess, adding monster licks and arpeggios to John Carpenter’s 1978 composition.

Carpenter spoke to NME about the Halloween 2018 film, explaining that this iteration will follow the first film of the franchise. “Yeah, the new movie takes place as if there were no sequels,” he said. “So Jamie Lee Curtis’s character Laurie Strode has grown up since that terrible night.

“She lost her friends and she encountered extreme violence so she has kind of PTSD and she’s a survivor of violence, so that’s what we go into in the new Halloween movie.”

Directed by David Gordon Green and co-written by actor and comedian Danny McBride, the film stars Jamie Lee Curtis who reprises her role as Laurie Strode – as she has done in six of the previous ten ‘Halloween’ films. Actor Nick Castle returns as the adult Michael Myers.

In a four-star review of the film, NME said “It captures a lot of the spirit and terror of that movie, though it’s still sometimes as silly as even its daftest sequels.”
