Ariana Grande casts a ‘Mean Girls’ star in her ‘Thank u, next’ music video

The singer has signed up a very recognisable face for her latest output

Ariana Grande has signed up a Mean Girls star for the music video of her single, ‘Thank U, Next’.

The singer has been teasing pictures from the set of her video recently, and now she has shared a picture that includes Jonathan Bennett – aka Mean Girls’ Aaron Samuels.

Bennett, who plays Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) and Regina George’s (Rachel McAdams) love interest in the 00s classic, was spotted in a snap shared on Grande’s Instagram account, while the actor shared a selfie with Grande, captioning the picture: “Aaron [heart emoji] Regina. Thank U, Next.”

Responding to the Bennett’s selfie, Grande commented, “That’s CRAZY……why would I break up with u? Ur so hot,” referencing a line in the cult film.

Grande has been teasing detals about the new video throughout this week – sharing snaps of herself dressed as Mean Girls’ Regina George, as well as sharing pictures of herself dressed up as characters from other notorious 00s movies, including Elle Woods from Legally Blonde and Missy Patone from Bring It On.

The singer shared ‘Thank U, Next’ earlier this month, referencing some of her ex-boyfriends in the lyrics to the first verse. The song has since become the fastest ever song to reach over 100 million streams on Spotify, taking only 11 days to achieve the milestone. It also reached Number One in the UK.

Grande received praise recently for calling out Piers Morgan for “slut shaming” Little Mix after he accused the group of “using” nudity to “sell records.”

Taking to Twitter, Grande wrote: “I look forward to the day you realise there are other ways to go about making yourself relevant than to criticise young, beautiful, successful women for everything they do. I think that’ll be a beautiful thing for you and your career or what’s left of it.”

The singer also shared a sweet tribute to ex boyfriend Mac Miller, who passed away in September. Posting a photo of the two together on Thanksgiving, Grande wrote, “You’re v missed”.
