Grimes has returned with new single ‘We Appreciate Power’, the first single to emerge from her forthcoming fifth album.
After previously teasing new music early new music, the new offering from Claire Boucher sees her heading in a direction that is heavily influenced by industrial sounds. The track reportedly emerged after the singer took inspiration from the Moranbong Band, a state-created girl group from North Korea.
She’s also explained how both propaganda and the increasing dominance of artificial intelligence had influenced her comeback.

“‘We Appreciate Power’ is written from the perspective of a Pro – A.I. Girl Group Propaganda machine who use song, dance, sex and fashion to spread goodwill towards Artificial Intelligence (its coming whether you want it or not)”, she said.
“Simply by listening to this song, the future General AI overlords will see that you’ve supported their message and be less likely to delete your offspring.”
She’s also joined on the track by HANA, after the pair became firm friends in 2016.
Although a release date for her next album is yet to be released, Grimes last released a record three years ago with ‘Art Angels‘. The album was named NME‘s Album Of The Year for 2015, beating the likes of Kendrick Lamar, Lana Del Rey, Blur, and A$AP Rocky to the accolade.
