Bring it on…
The National have been confirmed as the first act for Mad Cool Festival 2019.
After last year’s acclaimed event featured the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Queens Of The Stone Age, Jack White, Nine Inch Nails, Dua Lipa, Depeche Mode, Pearl Jam and many more, the 2019 edition of the Madrid bash has now announced The National as the first to top the bill – with plenty more acts to be announced in the months ahead.
Mad Cool Festival 2019 will take place in Madrid from July 11-13. Visit here for tickets and more information.
Having released the acclaimed ‘Sleep Well Beast‘ in 2017, The National revealed to NME earlier this summer that they were “beyond the halfway point” with progress on their next album – driven by a certain “looseness” and “an energy that’s evaded us in the past”, said guitarist Bryce Dessner.
Drummer Bryan Devendorf described their next effort as a “departure record”.
“It’s going to be more than just a record,” he said. “The other material that’s accompanying it is basically inspiring the record. It’s a collaborative project. I’ve said too much already…It’s not a big deal, it’s just different to everything else we’ve done. There’s a new element to it. That’s why Matt is rewriting everything.”
Speaking of his lyrical inspiration, frontman Matt Berninger told NME: “A lot of what I’ve been doing recently is a combination of writing really personal songs, alongside songs that are supposed to serve a purpose other than being just a National song or personal confession or an observation of self or the moment.”
