Slipknot’s Corey Taylor slams ‘schmuck’ Adam Levine for claiming that ‘rock music is nowhere’

The Maroon 5 frontman says that “flawed and real” hip-hop is the most inspiring genre

Slipknot‘s Corey Taylor has hit out at “schmuck” Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine over his negative comments towards rock music.

Speaking in a recent interview with Variety, Levine was asked where he places his band in terms of genre – with the group having followed various stylistic trends throughout their career.

After hailing Maroon 5 as “unique”, the musician said that the band “have always looked to hip-hop, R&B, [and] all rhythmic forms of music” right back from their debut LP.

“Rock music is nowhere, really,” added Levine. “I don’t know where it is. If it’s around, no one’s invited me to the party.”

Speaking on which areas of the industry he finds inspiring, the frontman said: “All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and flawed and real, and that’s why people love it.”

Now, Slipknot’s Corey Taylor has ripped into Levine after he was made aware of the comments on Twitter.

“Just because you claim to have ‘Moves Like Jagger’ doesn’t mean you come anywhere CLOSE to ROCKING like Jagger,” Taylor posted.

Criticising Levine’s venture into reality TV, he added: “Tell that schmuck to go back to The fucking ‘Voice’.”

Back in 2015, Taylor criticised Kanye West for claiming that he was the “greatest living rockstar on the planet” during his Glastonbury headline set.

Meanwhile, Adam Levine recently addressed speculation that Maroon 5 will perform at the Super Bowl Halftime Show – just days after 40,000 people signed a petition for them to turn down the controversial appearance.

Elsewhere, Slipknot – who will headline Download Festival in June – have previewed their upcoming sixth record with the mammoth single ‘All Out Life‘.

Corey Taylor has said that the new LP could be the band’s most mature to date.
