Rami Malek dedicated his surprise Golden Globes win for his part in Bohemian Rhapsody to Freddie Mercury.
The star collected the trophy for Best Performance By An Actor In A Motion Picture – Drama at the ceremony in California tonight (January 6). He beat the likes of Bradley Cooper (A Star Is Born) and Lucas Hedges (Boy Erased) to the prize.
Malek played Mercury in the Queen biopic, which was released last year and panned by critics. When collecting the award, he thanked the band in his acceptance speech, saying: “To you, Brian May, to you, Roger Taylor, for ensuring that authenticity and inclusivity exist in the music and in the world and in all of us.”

He continued: “Thank you to Freddie Mercury for giving me the joy of a lifetime. I love you, you beautiful man. This is for – and because of – you, gorgeous.”
Bohemian Rhapsody also picked up the award for Best Motion Picture – Drama. It was nominated in the category alongside favourites A Star Is Born and Black Panther, as well as Moonlight director Barry Jenkins’ If Beale Street Could Talk and Spike Lee’s BlacKkKlansman.
The 2019 Golden Globes was hosted by Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s Andy Samberg and Killing Eve’s Sandra Oh. You can see a full list of the winners here.
Meanwhile, fans will soon be able to experience Bohemian Rhapsody in cinemas in a different way, as plans for a singalong experience have been confirmed.
Lyrics will be shown on the screen and attendees will be encouraged to join in with the Queen hits that feature in the film, including ‘Don’t Stop Me Now’, ‘We Are The Champions’, and more. You can see a full list of participating cinemas and book tickets here.
