Gemma Chan stuns in floral on the March sub cover of InStyle magazine!
The 36-year-old actress opened up about almost becoming a lawyer and the impact Crazy Rich Asians had on society.
Gemma revealed that she almost took a job offer from a law firm when she secretly decided to apply to the Drama Centre London at Central Saint Martins to pursue her passion.
“I knew I’d probably be a miserable lawyer,” she told the mag. “It is a privilege to be able to take a chance, but if you can, it is better to try and fail. Disappointment is temporary, but regret lasts forever.”
As for bringing Asian actors to the forefront, Gemma dished that the cast of Crazy Rich Asians felt the pressure to do well in the film.
“We definitely felt that responsibility,” she added. “We didn’t want it to be a thing that people could say, ‘Oh, that film hasn’t performed’ and then other films may not be green-lighted. It is a slightly unrealistic expectation that whenever you have a woman or a person of color directing or starring in a film, it’s treated as a referendum on whether or not that group should be able to make movies.”
