Watch Death Cab For Cutie’s Ben Gibbard perform ‘The Concept’ with Teenage Fanclub

Death Cab For Cutie’s frontman Ben Gibbard joined Teenage Fanclub onstage in Seattle earlier this week for a version of ‘The Concept.’

Gibbard shared a mic with Teenage Fanclub’s frontman Norman Blake and the pair sand alternative verses of the ‘Bandwagonesque’ track before singing together in the second half of the song. You can watch footage of the moment below.

A long time fan of the band, Gibbard released a cover of the Scottish band’s 1991 album ‘Bandwagonesque’ back in 2017, and now it seems he jumped at the chance to join them onstage during their show in Seattle on Friday (22nd Feb.)

Death Cab For Cutie released their ninth studio album, ‘Thank You For Today’, in August, and it featured singles ‘Gold Rush’ and ‘I Dreamt We Spoke Again.’

In August, NME sat down with the band to talk through their latest album and their love of The Cure. The band also revealed the meaning of much-loved track ‘I Will Follow You Into The Dark.’

In October, the band – who formed in 1997 – celebrated the 15th anniversary of their seminal record, ‘Transatlanticism.’

Meanwhile, Teenage Fanclub recently announced the departure of their bassist, Gerard Love, after nearly 30 years with the band.

The veteran Scottish rockers formed in 1989 and have released 10 studio albums, with their breakthrough coming with third album ‘Bandwagonesque’ in 1991.

Last year, the band sat down with NME to talk through their five classic Creation-era albums, which were reissued on vinyl.

Frontman Norman Blake spoke about their breakthrough, adding: “’Bandwagonesque’ did better than any of us expected, and even brought us success in America. We’d been in the US in a couple of times before – [first album] ‘Catholic Education’ was released on Matador so we’d been over there, played CBGBs a couple of times – but this moved us up to another level, and we did two or three tours in the space of six months.”
