Alice Cooper speaks out in defence of Johnny Depp again before Hollywood Vampires hit the road together

“99 percent was just bull”

Alice Cooper has again come to the defence of his Hollywood Vampires bandmate, Johnny Depp, who has faced accusations of domestic abuse.

Cooper has said that “99 per cent” of reports last year about Depp’s behaviour are “just bull”. The rock star did not directly reference reported allegations that Depp physically abused his ex-wife Amber Heard, which Depp denies and has since filed a defamation lawsuit.

“All the stuff you heard last year about Johnny, 99 percent was just bull,” Cooper told Billboard. “I’ve never seen him look better in my life. I’ve never seen him happier. I’ve never heard him play better, and the way the press would have it is he’s a total destruction and ready to die. Totally not true.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that Depp sought $50 million from Heard allegedly defaming him with “hoax” claims of domestic abuse.

Speaking to NME last month, Cooper alleged that the media has spun a number of lies about Depp including substance abuse and a troubled financial status.

“Almost everything I read about Johnny Depp was absolutely untrue. You know, I’m touring with him and it says here in the paper: ‘Well, you [Depp] weigh 90 lbs and you’re a drug addict and you’re drinking and that you’re out of money’ and all this stuff,” he said.

Cooper, who is marking 50 years since the release of his debut album ‘Pretties For You’ with a UK tour in October, added that Depp consequently put “a lot of venom” into lyrics on Hollywood Vampires’ forthcoming new album.

“I tell ya, the really interesting thing is going to be the new [Hollywood] Vampires album, because of it was written on the road. A lot of it is Johnny Depp’s writing and there’s a lot of venom in his lyrics because of all the crap that went on,” Cooper said.

Hollywood Vampires embark on a seven-date US west coast tour later this year.
