The ‘Jekyll & Hyde’ Broadway Musical Is Becoming a Movie!

Jekyll & Hyde is coming to the big screen!

The 1997 Broadway musical will be getting a movie adaptation by Birdman screenwriter Alexander Dinelaris, who will pen the script and produce, according to Deadline on Tuesday (March 19).

The original musical ran for nearly four years before touring the globe, followed by a brief 2013 revival on Broadway. The original featured music by Frank Wildhorn, a book by Leslie Bricusse and lyrics by Frank, Leslie and Steve Cuden.

“Bringing the gritty potential of Leslie and Frank’s stirring gothic musical to the big screen made Jekyll & Hyde the perfect project to launch Lexicon, which is focused on character driven, muscular storytelling,” said Alexander of the upcoming film, as well as his production banner, Lexicon.

“After 30 years of our stage productions playing successfully in almost every major country in the world, we are absolutely thrilled to see our musical version of Jekyll & Hyde becoming a major motion picture,” added Leslie and Frank.

To mark the launch of the project, Alexander and Frank will host a performance of Jekyll & Hyde music on March 21 in New York featuring Deborah Cox, Laura Osnes, Matthew James Thomas and Bonnie Milligan.
