Watch Solange’s surreal new companion film to ‘When I Get Home’

“The film is an exploration of origin”

Solange has released a new companion film to accompany her latest album release, ‘When I Get Home.’

The follow-up album to 2016’s ‘A Seat at the Table’ arrived just after midnight yesterday (March 1), confirming fan speculation that new material would surface this week following the launch of a cryptic social media site.

Now, a new 33-minute film has been released today (March 2) to accompany the album as a ‘companion piece’. You can watch clips from the film below and watch the full film on Apple Music now.

Directed and edited by Solange, the film is described as “an exploration of origin, asking the question how much of ourselves do we bring with us verses leave behind in our evolution” by a representative for Solange. The representative also revealed that Solange “returned to Third Ward Houston to answer this.”

The artistic video is filled with elaborate choreography throughout and contains many diverse scenes including one with a fleet of DeLoreans and one where a woman is welding and making what appears to be a spaceship console.

The singer worked on the film project with contributing directors Alan Ferguson, Terence Nance, Jacolby Satterwhite and Ray Tintori. The film also includes contributions from Autumn Knight and Robert Pruitt.

The film stars Solange throughout and features all of the songs from her latest release, which you can listen to here:

Solange wrote to fans on her Twitter account shortly after the release of ‘When I Get Home’, sharing that she was “filled [with] so much joy right now!”

“I’m bringing home with me everywhere I go, y’all, and I ain’t running from shit no more,” she wrote, in reference to her home town of Houston. “Your love lifts me up so high. Thank you!”

Solange will be one of the headliners at this year’s Lovebox Festival this summer, which will return to Gunnersbury Park in west London.
