5-Year-Old Child Injured in Car Crash Involving Kansas City Chiefs Coach Britt Reid Wakes From Coma

UPDATE: Ariel Young, the 5-year-old girl who was injured in the Feb. 4 car crash involving Kansas City Chiefs coach Britt Reid, is awake, her family shared in an update on their GoFundMe page on Feb. 15. The family previously shared that Ariel, who was hospitalized in critical condition, was in a coma following the crash.

This news comes days after Reid was placed on administrative leave after the accident.

UPDATE: Kansas City Chiefs coach Britt Reid has been placed on administrative leave following a Feb. 4 car accident that left a 5-year-old child seriously injured.

The team said in a statement released Tuesday, Feb. 9, “We remain in the process of gathering information on the incident, and we will continue to assist local authorities as requested.”

“Our focus remains on Ariel Young and her family,” the Chiefs continued. “We have reached out to the family to offer our support and resources to them during this difficult time, and we will continue to pray for her recovery.”

Britt Reid, who is the outside linebackers coach for the Kansas City Chiefs and son of head coach Andy Reid, was involved in a three-vehicle crash that left two children injured.

The NFL team, which is facing off against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV on Sunday, Feb. 7, issued a statement regarding the incident.

“The organization has been made aware of a multi-vehicle accident involving Outside Linebackers Coach, Britt Reid. We are in the process of gathering information, and we will have no further comment at this time,” a statement read on Friday, Feb. 5, per an ESPN insider. “Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved.”
