The two acts were both performing on the Main Stage at the festival today
Sum 41 and Mike Shinoda covered Linkin Park during the former’s set at Reading Festival today (August 25).
Both acts performed on the Main Stage at the southern leg of Reading & Leeds 2018 earlier, ahead of co-headline sets from Kendrick Lamar and Panic! At The Disco.
“Ladies and gentlemen, we have a very, very special guest with us tonight,” Sum 41 frontman Deryck Whibley said before the band’s final song. “Say hello to Mr. Mike Shinoda!”

Shinoda then joined the Canadian band onstage to play guitar and rap his verses. Whibley took over the parts that were handled by Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington. As the song came to a close, Whibley gave Shinoda a shout out and said: “Chester, we miss you.” Watch footage of the performance above.
“Never thought I’d see ‘Faint’ ever performed live after Chester’s death,” one fan wrote on Twitter after. “Then Sum 41 bring out Mike Shinoda and fulfill a dream of mine. What a show.”
“Best day of my life,” added another. “Saw Mike Shinoda then Sum 41 brought him back on to collab a Linkin Park song!”

Sum 41 also covered Queen‘s ‘We Will Rock You’ earlier in their set. Their full setlist was as follows:
‘The Hell Song’
‘Motivation’
‘Over My Head (Better Off Dead)’
‘Walking Disaster’
‘We’re All To Blame’
‘We Will Rock You’
‘In Too Deep’
‘Still Waiting’
‘Fat Lip’
‘Faint’
Shinoda, meanwhile, performed immediately before Sum 41 and included several Linkin Park songs in his set. ‘Castle Of Glass’, ‘Roads Untravelled’, and ‘In The End’ all featured, alongside a handful of Fort Minor tracks and the musician’s own solo material.
Mike Shinoda played:
‘Petrified’
‘Castle Of Glass’
‘Roads Untravelled’
‘Crossing A Line’
‘In The End’
‘About You’
‘Over Again’ / ‘Papercut’
‘Make It Up As I Go’
‘Good Goodbye’ / ‘Bleed It Out’
‘Remember The Name’
‘Running From My Shadow’
Ahead of his appearance at Reading Festival, Shinoda gave his views on Kendrick Lamar’s booking. “If I saw him on, like, a Hellfest bill or something that might be a little weird,” he said. “But Kendrick is a unicorn. He’s not your typical rap artist. Every time I’ve seen him live it’s different – it’s poetry, it’s jazz, it’s rock, it’s rap. It’s everything.”
Reading Festival 2018 continues with performances from Lamar, Dua Lipa, N.E.R.D. and more due to perform today. Sum 41 and Shinoda will appear at Leeds Festival tomorrow.
