Watch new ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ video as the cast reveal how they became Queen

“I played a little bit of guitar before, but nothing on this level”

A new behind-the-scenes video from Bohemian Rhapsody has revealed how the cast received guidance from Brian May and Roger Taylor as they prepared to give Queen the big screen treatment.

Set for release next Wednesday (October 24), Bohemian Rhapsody tells the story of Freddie Mercury’s meteoric rise to fame and the band’s journey to their legendary Live Aid performance in 1985.

In a new featurette, Rami Malek reveals the pressure of playing Freddie Mercury, while Gwilym Lee (Brian May) and Ben Hardy (Roger Taylor) discuss how they met up with the Queen icons ahead of portraying them.

“I played a little bit of guitar before, but nothing on this level”, Lee admits.

The clip also features contributions from May, who explains how he offered guitar tuition to Lee.

“I find myself looking at the edits and I do kind of believe that it’s me!”, May says of Lee’s performance.

Meanwhile, Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury recently attracted praise from co-star Lucy Boynton.

Boynton, who plays Mercury’s lover Mary Austin, said: “He became Freddie so closely that I assumed many of those idiosyncrasies must be his own.

“Then we started hanging out, and I realised that he could not be more different. Having got to know him better, and then gone back to watch the film, I just think… how?”
