Phoenix congratulate Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez on election and viral ‘Lisztomania’ dance video

It comes after a 2010 college clip of her dancing to the song was shared seemingly to smear her

Phoenix have applauded a newly-elected Democratic Representative and shared a video of her dancing to their song ‘Lisztomania’ in 2010.

On Friday, the ‘Boston University Brat Pack Mashup’ of the French band’s 2009 single was circulated online by AnonymousQ in an apparent attempt to smear Ocasio-Cortez.

But the purported move backfired two-fold, with Phoenix congratulating Congress’ youngest ever representative on Twitter and Ocasio-Cortez herself posting a new clip of her dancing by her new office.

The band wrote: “Congratulations on being the youngest woman ever being elected to Congress!
Tendrement, Phoenix”.

AnonymousQ’s account has since been deleted, and with it the original Tweet, which read: “Here is America’s favorite commie know-it-all acting like the clueless nitwit she is”.

In a new video posted by Ocasio-Cortez yesterday, the Congresswoman lip-syncs:“What is it good for? Absolutely nothing” to Edwin Starr’s Motown classic ‘War’. She makes more light of the matter by bursting into laughter and entering her new office.

Alongside the clip she wrote: “I hear the GOP [Republican party] thinks women dancing are scandalous. Wait till they find out Congresswomen dance too! 💃🏽”

The 2010 film was made while Ocasio-Cortez was an undergraduate at Boston University.

In the video she joins other students to dance to ‘Lisztomania’ on the rooftop of a university building in a mash-up of a dance from cult ’80s film The Breakfast Club.
