Childish Gambino settles royalties dispute with former record label

Donald Glover took legal action against the company last year

Childish Gambino has reportedly settled the dispute with his former record label, after attempting to sue them over an issue regarding royalties.

Back in September last year, the artist (aka Donald Glover) claimed that Glassnote Records owed him $10,000 (£7,570) in streaming royalties, alleging that they had miscalculated payments in breach of their licensing agreement. The suit also alleged breaches of contract, good faith, fair dealing, fiduciary duty and negligence.

“Donald Glover made a claim that he was owed 95% of SoundExchange royalties when we are legislatively and contractually required to share those royalties 50/45,” a filed complaint from Glassnote last summer read.

“We are not asking for anything back from Donald Glover, just that we are able to retain the monies that are contractually and legally ours and that have already been paid to us.”

Now, according to a stipulation filed on Friday (March 1) in New York (via Variety), both Glover and Glassnote have agreed to drop the dispute.

Meanwhile, Childish Gambino is set to bring his ‘This Is America’ tour to the UK this month. The artist will play two shows at London’s O2 Arena on March 24/25, after cancelling a date at the venue scheduled for last winter.

Glover was originally due to perform at the arena on November 4 but was forced to reschedule the date at the last minute after he sustained a foot injury during a gig in Dallas in September.

Donald Glover has claimed his current Childish Gambino tour will be his last ever. During the first show of the run in Atlanta, he reportedly told those in attendance: “If you’re at this show know that it’s the last Gambino tour ever. This is not a concert. This is fucking church.”
