It’s an impressive take on the track…
Elle Fanning has debuted her cover of Robyn’s ‘Dancing On My Own’, in a new clip from her upcoming movie, Teen Spirit.
The coming-of-age film stars Fanning as Violet Valenski, a shy Polish teenager in an English town who auditions for a singing competition in the hope that it will allow her to escape the humdrum of everyday life.
In the first clip from the film, we see Violet covering Robyn’s seminal 2010 hit for her audition – although it’s interspersed with footage that shows her dancing at a party and exploring the British countryside.
An official synopsis of the film teases: “A shy teenager dreams of escaping her small town and pursuing her passion to sing. With the help of an unlikely mentor, she enters a local singing competition that will test her integrity, talent and ambition.”

Fanning’s performance of the track comes ahead of the film’s full release on April 5.
Meanwhile, Dancing On My Own received another cover of sorts last week, when a group of Robyn fans were seen leading a rendition on a New York subway platform.
Robyn’s performance at Madison Square Gardens inspired a huge post-gig dance party on the subway as hundreds of attendees sang ‘Hang With Me’ and ‘Dancing on My Own.’
Responding to the video, the singer wrote on Instagram: “I’m overwhelmed. Someone just posted this video and I can’t believe the love in this subway station.”
