Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Pushed Back More Than a Year to Spring 2020

The movie stars Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu.

Director Niki Caro’s live-action Mulan is getting a new release date: March 27, 2020, Disney announced on Thursday.

The movie was originally set to open in theaters on Nov. 2, 2018, but it took more than a year to find the film’s star,  Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crystal Liu, following an extensive worldwide search. The studio has long been aware that it wouldn’t meet the first release date.

A team of casting directors visited five continents and saw nearly 1,000 candidates for Disney’s retelling of the classic musical animated hit Mulan.

Disney made a host of other changes to its release calendar, including moving up the release of Marvel’s The Avengers: Infinity War by a week to April 27, 2018.

More to come.
