‘Shape of Water’ scored four wins after receiving a whopping 13 nominations.
After landing 13 nominations at the 90th Academy Awards, The Shape of Water was the big winner on Sunday night — but not by much. The film took home four Oscars, including best picture and best director for Guillermo del Toro.
Dunkirk followed with three wins for sound editing and mixing, along with film editing. Four films scored two Oscars, and another four just one (see the full tally below).
Twentieth Century Fox’s specialty division Fox Searchlight led the studio count, with boasting rights to six Oscars, thanks to the four wins for The Shape of Water, and the two acting trophies that were claimed by Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.
Warner Bros. followed close behind with five wins, all in the crafts categories — Dunkirk took three and Blade Runner 2049, which Warners distributed domestically, scored the awards for cinematography and visual effects. (Sony Pictures co-financed Alcon Entertainment’s Blade Runner and distributed it internationally, giving it shared custody of its two wins.)
Focus Features, Universal Pictures’ specialty label, collected a trio of wins — two for Darkest Hour and one for Phantom Thread.
Disney had a hand in two of the awards since Pixar’s Coco took the prizes for animated film and song.
Sony Pictures Classics went home with two awards — for Call Me By Your Name’s adapted screenplay and A Fantastic Woman’s foreign-language feature win.
Universal, Neon/30West and Netflix scored one Oscar each for, respectively, Get Out’s original screenplay, Allison Janney’s supporting actress victory in I, Tonya and the best documentary Icarus.
