A new photo has leaked online that provides the best look at Zachary Levi’s costume in DC’s Shazam! movie. Warner Bros. first announced plans to develop a movie based on Shazam way back in 2014 alongside the rest of the unofficially titled DCEU’s core films. However, the movie sat on the backburner for a few years while the studio focused on bringing the world’s finest heroes together in Zack Snyder’s Justice League. But now, Shazam! is finally on its way to the big screen.
Shazam! started filming in February 2018. Horror filmmaker David F. Sandberg is directing the film based on a script by Henry Gayden and Darren Lemke, with Levi playing the eponymous superhero Shazam and Asher Angel playing his younger counterpart, Billy Batson. Even though the first trailer for Shazam! won’t release for quite some time (seeing as the film isn’t slated to hit theaters until April 2019), fans have been anxiously awaiting the first look at Levi’s Shazam costume. And while Warner Bros. doesn’t seem to be too concerned about releasing the first official look at Shazam!, despite a leaked photo already revealing Levi’s costume, fans can get an even better look at the Shazam suit thanks to yet another leaked photo that has now made its way online.

A new leaked photo from the set of Shazam! is now online, courtesy of Twitter account DC Comics United, showing the front-side of Zachary Levi’s Shazam costume. The prior leaked photo showed Levi’s suit from the side, thus concealing the lightning bolt on the front. Take a look:

Sandberg had mentioned recently that Zachary Levi’s Shazam costume will have Justice League: War similarities. Judging by the two leaked photos that have released thus far, it’s fair to compare the live-action film with the 2014 animated movie. Aside from the white cape that the character is always known for having, the similarities between the costume in DCEU Shazam! film and the one from Justice League: War (which itself was based on the Justice League: Origin comic arc) are evident by Levi’s bracers and the yellow lightning bolt on his chest, which is bigger and narrower than the one the character uses in the animated movie. While the suit is starkly different from the costumes that all the other DCEU heroes are known for wearing, Shazam’s costume is quite accurate to the source material, which should please longtime comic book fans, especially fans of the character..
On Reddit, Sandberg had previously said that Warner Bros. was ready to release the official look at Levi as Shazam, but they are no longer in a rush to do so. Given that two leaked photos have released now, and Warners still hasn’t released the first look photo, it’s possible that they are waiting until WonderCon 2018 at the end of the month to start marketing the film, which is also when the first Aquaman trailer is rumored to release. That said, now that fans know what Zachary Levi looks like as the superhero Shazam, the next step would be finding out what Mark Strong looks like as the villain Dr. Sivana, not to mention getting first looks at the rest of the cast of DC’s Shazam! movie… but there’s plenty of time for all of that to happen.
