A fan-made video hilariously spoofs the recently released Mary Poppins Returns teaser trailer by featuring Guardians of the Galaxy‘s Yondu Udonta (Michael Rooker) instead of Emily Blunt. Directed by Rob Marshall with the story by Marshall, David Magee, and John DeLuca, the movie is the long-awaited sequel to the 1964 classic, Mary Poppins starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
More than five decades in the making but narratively taking place 25 years after the first movie, Mary Poppins Returns features Blunt as the titular character, opposite Lin-Manuel Miranda as lamplighter and apprentice to Bert (Van Dyke), Jack. The new version of the magical nanny arrives at the same house on Cherry Tree Lane to help troubled Michael Banks (Ben Whishaw), who is now grown-up, with three kids of his own: Annabel (Pixie Davis), George (Joel Dawson) and John (Nathanael Saleh). The movie also stars Academy Award-winning actors such as Meryl Streep as Topsy-Turvy Poppins, Colin Firth as William Weatherall Wilkins, as well as Oscar-nominee Angela Lansbury as Balloon Lady. Meanwhile, Van Dyke will have a special appearance taking the role of Mr. Dawes Jr.

Coming from YouTube content creator Meme Detective, the snippet shows Lin Manuel Miranda’s Bert helping Nathanael Saleh’s John pull back the battered the kite. But instead of Emily Blunt’s version of the magical nanny, Yondu, with his Yaka Arrow, cinematically descends from the cloudy skies. The clip is only a fragment of the real teaser trailer, and while its title spoils the surprising twist, it’s still able to evoke a laugh from viewers. Check the full video above.
Yondu as Mary Poppins, of course, came from one of the funniest bits in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when Star-Lord made the comment about the Ravager slowly descending from the skies was similar to how the original Mary Poppins did it. Despite not knowing who Mary Poppins was, the fact that she is deemed cool to Peter Quill was enough reason for Yondu to assume the persona prompting him to exclaim: “I’m Mary Poppins ya’ll.” Since then, Rooker has been using the phrase as his own personal catchphrase. Considering that Peter has been off Earth since 1988, he is unaware that a sequel is coming to theaters after more than five decades. With his imminent return to his home planet, it would be interesting if he made just a quick quip about the upcoming Disney follow-up as it could be a good call back to his foster father who died saving him.
With no Star Wars film coming out this December (Solo: A Star Wars Story maintains its May debut), Mary Poppins Returns is Disney’s main bet with regard to Christmas box office money. Given its genre and release’s timeliness, it will undoubtedly bring huge profits to the House of Mouse. However, it will have a few competitions such as Warner Bros./DC’s Aquaman (their only film this year) and Sony’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse (which looks really interesting).
