A fun fan-made trailer has arrived for IT: Chapter 2, and it includes several A-listers as members of the adult Losers’ Club. While adaptations of Stephen King books were all over the place during the 1980s and 1990s, it feels like that trend slowed down somewhat at the turn of the millennium. That all changed in 2017 when fans were greeted with back to back adaptations of the author’s work, including Gerald’s Game, 1922, The Dark Tower and TV shows like Mr Mercedes.
Without a doubt, the biggest success was IT, a new take on King’s classic horror novel. The book is split between two timelines, with a group of kids dubbed The Losers’ Club having to confront an evil force called Pennywise, and then reunite 27-years later to finish him once and for all. The movie only focused on the childhood section, with a perfectly cast Bill Skarsgård bringing Pennywise to life, a great child cast, and a steady supply of scares. The movie was a critical and commercial hit and went on to become the most successful R-rated horror movie of all time.

Given the success of the film, IT: Chapter 2 didn’t take long to get a green light. The movie is due to arrive September 2019, and while no actors have been attached to the grown-up Losers’ Club yet, a fan has put together a concept trailer for the sequel on YouTube. The line-up includes Jessica Chastain as Beverly, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mike, Chris Pratt playing Ben, and Jake Gyllenhaal as Eddie, with the preview doing an impressive job of stitching together footage from different movies to give an idea of what that sequel could look like.
Some of the actors featured in the trailer have been linked to roles in IT: Chapter 2, and it seems Jessica Chastain is almost a lock for adult Bev. The movie is due to begin filming this summer in Toronto, so casting information will likely be revealed very soon. While the sequel is highly anticipated, it may not be quite the success of the first entry. Part of the appeal of IT was the child cast and the sense of nostalgia for a bygone era, while the sequel will shift focus to their modern-day, adult counterparts. The second half of the 1990s IT mini-series is generally considered the weakest for its focus on the adult Losers’, so hopefully, the movie version can overcome this.
Apart from IT: Chapter 2, the Stephen King renaissance continues elsewhere, and the next few years will see adaptations of Pet Sematary, The Bone Church, Doctor Sleep and a TV series reboot of The Dark Tower for Amazon. While Idris Elba is still rumored to be attached to the role of Roland The Gunslinger following the disappointing reception to the 2017 movie, the actor has admitted he’s usually the ‘last to know’ about the project.
