CBS’ TV reboot of L.A. Confidential is filling out its cast, adding three more to the drama pilot.
Mark Webber and Shea Whigham will both play detectives in the spin on the noir-y 1997 Oscar winner, while Alana Arenas joins as an investigative reporter. They join previously announced stars Brian J. Smith and Walton Goggins.
Arenas’ character June, interestingly, is the first addition to the series without a direct counterpart in the film. Webber (Det. Bud White) and Whigham (Det. Dick Stensland) are filling the respective roles played by Russell Crowe and Graham Beckel. That leaves one major role yet to be cast, the part of an up-and-coming actress whose life intersects with the detectives’ ongoing murder investigation.
L.A. Confidential, of course, is based on a 1990 James Ellroy novel of the same name. This project, one of several reboots in the works at CBS, is described as a tonally modern version of Ellroy’s book and the film. Written by Jordan Harper (Gotham, The Mentalist) and set in 1950s Los Angeles, it is being produced by New Regency, Lionsgate Television and CBS Television Studios. Michael Dinner is directing the pilot.
