Patti Smith has announced a new documentary film, which will celebrate the 40th anniversary of her seminal debut album ‘Horses.’
Titled Horses: Patti Smith and her Band, the concert film will capture the final gig of the album’s anniversary tour. The documentary was shot at the Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles in early 2016.
Directed by Steven Sebring and executive produced by Jimmy Iovine, Horses: Patti Smith and her Band will premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival on April 23.
Meanwhile, Smith is gearing up to support Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds as part of the new All Points East Festival.
With LCD Soundsystem, The xx and Bjork already announced to headline the main weekend of the All Points East festival (with the likes of Father John Misty, Beck, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Lorde, Sampha, Lykke Li and many more), Cave will be joining The National in headlining a separate APE Presents night to close the 10 day event at Victoria Park.
Not only is this a UK Festival exclusive for Cave, but his show on Sunday June 3, 2018, will see him joined by Smith, St Vincent and Courtney Barnett.
Smith will also join Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds at the Royal Hospital Kilmainham in Dublin on June 6, 2018.
Last year, Patti Smith shared a heartbreaking tribute to noted playwright and actor Sam Shepard, whose death was announced on July 31.
Shepard passed away at home in Kentucky following complications pertaining to ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), his family said in a statement.
In a piece of writing, titled ‘My Buddy’ and posted on The New Yorker, Smith recalls a long, globe-spanning friendship with Shepard – one which blossomed under the influence of Shepard’s noted writing talents, in spite of his illness.
